Hello everyone! Hope you all had a good weekend! I know I
did and Sunday morning started earlier than hoped for. We had a work bee at the
school at 8 am. Although 8 o’clock in the morning is really not that early, it
sure felt like it! All the SMs and a few of the other staff worked hard around
the campus. My first job was to clean out the gym by using a leaf blower. There
was SO much dust, and dirt, and random trash in there! I was covered in dust
when I was done! After that was finished, I went outside and was handed a
coconut that had been cut down from the tree. The juice was definitely needed
and the meat inside was of course, delicious. I then helped rake a bunch of
leaves around the trees and loaded up lots of cut branches to take to the dump.
After 2 ½, 3 hours later, the campus was looking a whole lot better. Grass was
cut, pavement pressure washed, sidewalks swept, rain water ditches clean, and
playground gravel was nicer. Afterwards, the Edwards provided us with a
delicious breakfast of pancakes and oatmeal!
We really felt the need to wash off after getting all sweaty
and dirty. So we decided to go to a waterfall. But, it started to rain a whole
bunch and since it was dangerous to hike to the waterfall with it so wet, we
went to the man made “beach” a ways down the road. So in the pouring rain, we
piled into the back of the truck and went to the beach. Now really, the beach
had sand that was all crushed up coral and there was a rock/ metal wall to jump
off. Not really much, but it felt nice to jump into the warm ocean and swim.
Climbing back up the wall on the other hand, was not the easiest task in the
world! Some people got scratches and cuts but I think it was all worth it! It
was raining hard the whole time we were swimming and it’s hard to believe, but
I was actually cold! I never thought I would say that here in Pohnpei, but at
that point, I really wanted to cuddle with a blanket in front of a fireplace! It
was still 75 degrees outside!
Getting back to the school, I took a shower with just a
drizzle of water and then got called by Tony and Riley to come take pictures of
their soccer team. The team is sponsored by a Congressman and he had helped by
the whole team new uniforms because he wants to promote soccer more in Pohnpei.
Basketball is much more known so they want to introduce more sports on the
island. So I was in charge of taking pictures for the team and getting a team
picture. I was pretty fun and I got asked several times if I was on the team.
Oh goodness if they only knew how terrible I am at soccer they would be glad
I’m not on the team! Sunday night was another evangelistic meeting at the
church. We were all just so exhausted we could barely stay awake! I went to bed
early that night because I really needed the sleep. Getting up at 5:30 this
morning was a lot easier than usual. I decided I needed to start running in
mornings or do some type of workout. I didn’t have too much time but I ran
around the campus at least 10 times and did some other forms of workout as
well. The campus was still kind of dark but it’s safe and there is a street
lamp. Plus, the dogs follow me around most of the way as I run.
Kindergarten today was kind of hectic. I had to give a good
lecture to them about manners and saying positive things to each other, and NO
HITTING. Haylee, one of my best students, told some other kid that his coloring
“didn’t look good”. I scolded her pretty good for that and you could tell that
she felt bad. Another girl, Yuree, was sitting by a boy named Kody today in the
circle and I asked a question and he raised his hand before her and she just
started crying. All the adults in the room were really puzzled! It took her a
while before she could explain what was wrong. Apparently she was upset because
Kody had raised his hand before her. It’s nice to get a break after my
Kindergartners and teach high schoolers because they actually understand me a
lot better and I can actual instruct them and expect them to follow my
directions the first time! I love helping Roy teach boys P.E! The guys like to
joke around and they listen to my instructions. Roy is such a great person to
work with because he’s easy going but also firm.
Tomorrow is Founders day here at the school. The whole
school is getting into teams and plays educational games. It’s only a half day
too! Woohoo! J
Have a fantastic day ya’ll!
